Triumph for Simon and Brian

In all the years that Simon Hill with Brian Huxter have been running the farms, this is the first one that we have made all the first and second cut silage* without a drop of rain on any of it: 1000 acres in all cut, wilted, and ensiled; quite a feat in this wet year. Early analysis shows that we have some excellent quality silage in readiness for the winter.

*silage is made by storing fresh cut grass in an air-tight condition and adding lactobacilli so that it ferments – rather like making pickled onions.
